------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "It'is a prototype musical instrument capable of generating sound in real time from the lines of doodles as well as from the contours of three-dimensional objects nearby (hands, dancer's silhouette, architectural details, etc). There is no camera nor projector: a laser spot explores the shape as a pick-up head would search for sound over the surface of a vinyl record - with the significant difference that the groove is generated by the contours of the drawing itself. The light beam follows these countours in the very same way a blind person uses a white cane to stick to a guidance route on the street. Details of this tracking technique can be found here.
Sound is produced and modulated according to the curvature of the lines being followed, their angle with respect to the vertical as well as their color and contrast. This means that "scoreLight" implements gesture, shape and color-to-sound artificial synesthesia [4]; abrupt changes in the direction of the lines produce trigger discrete sounds (percussion, glitches), thus creating a rhythmic base (the length of a closed path determines the overall tempo)."
Aerogel, oder auch Blue Smoke genannt, ist ein hochporöser Feststoff, welcher aus bis zu 95% Poren besteht. Aerogele gibt es seit den dreißiger Jahren. Bis in die späten Siebziger galten sie aber eher als Kuriosität. Dann entdeckten Forscher, dass sich mithilfe der leichten Werkstoffe Raketentreibstoffe speichern lassen, und begannen, sie weiter zu entwickeln. Mittlerweile bricht die aktuelle Version, bestehend aus Glaspartikeln und einem Bestandteil von PU, Rekorde was seine Eigenschaften in diversen Bereichen angeht(Gewicht/Temperatur/Stabilität/...). Unter dem Mikroskop betrachtet sieht man Partikelketten mit fraktalartigen Aggregaten, was dazu führt das die Innenoberflächen der Poren bei einem Gramm des Materials auf tausend(!)m² kommen kann.
Leider scheint es akustisch gesehen keine besonders guten Werte, zumindest im Bereich der Schallabsorbtion, aufzuweisen. Die Wellen gehen sozusagen ungetrübt durch das Material hindurch. Als "akustischen Koppler" könne man es allerdings verwenden. (Georges Reber/S.34)

Tonmoebel.blogspot.com is an online research database for my final work and diploma project "Tonmoebel| Von Gelsenkirchen nach Houston" at HbK Saar University, Germany.
The German word Tonmöbel is not really translatable into English, for which there is no English word. It is an assembly of Tone and Furniture * . This term was used in the 50ies for those big wooden ancient looking pieces of music furniture with radio, phono, record-changing systems and in most cases an included mini-bar.
